I’m going through a similar situation. I think I might have to start crating mine when I go out for a couple hours, because he destroys everything! Your dog is probably having separation anxiety and is not afraid to show it!

I’d say he needs another couple of months in the crate. Starting now.

Sounds like he needs two things.
    1) more excersie
    2) a crate or kennel

First, try to take him for a long walk every morning (at least 45 minutes).

Then gate off a small section of your house that is safe for him….gradually as he starts behaving give him more space to roam. Make sure you leave plenty of toys…such as kongs to keep him busy.

At night, also make sure he is going for a really long walk as well.

since you are at work when this happens you can’t really punish him, because he won’t remember what he did and he will think that you are punishing him for nothing and will get confused. the ON thing you can do is to get the appropriately sized kennel for him and put him in there while you are at work. if you don’t want to leave him in there all day then you should find a room with nothing that you don’t want destroyed and put rubber toys in there for him to chew on and lock him in there. you might want to make it a tile room though.

He sounds bored and under-exercised. Make sure he is getting adequate physical and mental exercise every day (running around the backyard doesn’t cut it). My little Miniature Pinscher gets at a minimum a 45 minute walk daily (when he is older, we’ll be going for runs instead of walks, but he’s still a puppy, so I don’t want to stress his joints). A larger dog will need more than that. For mental stimulation, sign him up for obedience classes, or if you’ve already done that, try classes on something like agility, tracking, herding, etc that your dog might be suited for. Also, make sure he is given lots of acceptable and attractive items to chew on and play with while he is home alone, like Bully Sticks, Flossies, stuffed Kong Toys, and a Buster Cube or other food puzzle. If he’s being adequately exercised and mentally stimulated, the destructive behavior will stop.

Definitely try and walk your dog everyday. [a romp around the yard doesn't count!!] Also, get those gates often used for little kids. Block him in an area that has little to get into. We usually block our puppy in the kitchen with water and toys.
    Exercise, exercise, exercise!
    Good luck!! =]
